The Bate collection is museum in Oxford like no other. The Bate collection has a rich and rare collection of musical instruments in the world. The history and development of musical instruments of the Western Classical tradition from the medieval period until the present day
The Collection is made available for study and judicious use by scholars, students, makers, and players, so as to enhance and increase the knowledge of the history of music as well as the enjoyment of historic performance for all.
The Bate collection has over 2000 instruments from the Western orchestral music traditions from the renaissance, through the baroque, classical, romantic and up to modern times. More than a thousand instruments are on display, by all the most important makers and from pre-eminent collectors.
