Christ Church College

Christ Church College  

Christ Church means the temple or house of Christ in Latin. Christ church college is one of the largest colleges of University of Oxford. The college is associated with Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, which serves as the college chapel and whose dean is ex officio the college head. 13 British Prime Ministers are from Christ Church College and famous Alice in wonderland was also written here.

In 1525, Thomas Wolsey started this college as a cardinal’s college but Wolsey fell from grace of King Henry VIII. Then King Henry VIII took control of cardinal’s college and renamed it. Christ Church is the Cathedral Church for the Diocese of Oxford.

Some notable famous alumni from this college are John Locke, Robert Hooke, John Wesley, Robert Peel, William Gladstone, W.H. Auden, David Dimbleby, Rowan Williams, Richard Curtis and Howard Goodall.

Christ Church College is also famous as Hogwarts School of Harry Potter. Some of the famous Harry Potter filmed scenes were filmed here. The Dining Hall of Harry Potter was inspired by the dining hall of Christ Church College.
